Comics kick ass again!

As a long time fan of comics at a certain point I got fed up with superheroes and later with most of the comics created around the globe. Almost nothing seemed to give me the notorious "sense of wonder". Not the mainstream, not the underground, not the alternative, usually not even the sure-to-work stars of my comicscreators heaven.

Until recently: ... I stumbled upon MARVEL ZOMBIES. What a great idea! What cunning dialogue, inteligent storyline! Superheroes eating each other. Captain Americas head sawed off with his adamantium shield, Spideys legs, the Galactus feast, muhahaaa, so many jokes.

And now CIVIL WAR! I never liked the goodytwoshoes patriotic Captain America, but he was really excellent when fighting S.H.I.E.LD. I always loved the X-men idea of a special outsider species of mutants, now they wanna registrate all the superheroes here. I am currently at the 3rd part, but boy am I curious, almost horny (: Spider-man revealing his identity, J.J.J. falling of the chair, hah! Mr.Fantastic is plotting something, something huge. And it all feels so real. Like the X-static books.

Thats the sense of wonder I needed to feel in my stomach again. When I first saw the AKIRA movie or listened to Rage against the machine. It isnt important if its from a superheroe book or a autobiographic graphic novel, from a Terry Gilliam movie or a painting by Klimt. Whatever turns me on.

Okay, maybe I check all the great comicstories some months or years later, nevertheless, I LOVE COMICS AGAIN!

Days of future past - remembering Comics salon 2006

Yo, while preparing the next page of the Revenge of the whales comics I stumbled upon this photo from last year.
From left to right: the BUB a.k.a. ME, Markus MAWIL Witzel, kickass comics artis from Germany, Mohammed Ghazala, our comics guest from the far away land of Egypt, hell of a nice guy, Tomas HIBI Matejicek, active on Komiks.cz, KomiksFEST! and other great czech comics events and last but not least, Tomas Prokupek, architecture publicist, comics writer and D.I.Y. publisher of the annual comics magazine Aargh!, also a comics publicist from the Czech lands. Photo taken on Comics salon 2006, the biggest comics event in middle Europe. I was blessed/cursed to have the possibility to work on this festival as the head honcho of the comics section. Get ready for september 2007!!!

I am Ahab!!!

Its here, finally. The first page of my short graphic story Revenge of the whales, from where this blog has a name, is finished (almost). Based on a remake of some old story of mine and inspired by a song from the band MASTODON. Soon to be seen on the PC screen. Also in the second number of the multilanguage comcismagazine ADAMANTIUM. Stay tuned for more info.

Sparth is the man!

Bloody hell, this guy kicks ass! You oughta check out his gallery , really great stuff, I love his work. It looks quick and unpolished, but has atmosphere and the "sense of wonder" feeling. I have also tried to draw something quick, using some textures and painting in photoshop, of course its not that easy as it looks like when beholding Sparths stuff, but lets say its possible to do quick concepts. Thanx for your art, mistah Sparth!

No easy way out

A sketch for a t-shirt which I´m gonna do mahself now, during the time I have to learn for me final exams :) Nah, it´s ok, I am learning already, so I can take also some extra time, to be a lil´ bit creative. Holding A Wolf By The Ears

Also, my bigggest ristek-pah goes out to the band From autumn to ashes, they kick ass again with their new album Holding A Wolf By The Ears (the one before was not good enough for such excellent creators). Sometimes you think that things get often worse and Lo and behold, it got better now, its excellent. A great example of overcoming your own boundaries, propably their best album ever. Very intense, very passionate. Can´t get enough of it. Ch-ch-check it out!

Freakin´ kamikaze

Banzaaaiii! I have just seen the last episode of Samurai Champloo, man, what a good series and thank god its finished, no other season in sight, to let it rot and get worse (like in Prison break). Like this, I am satisfied and happy, Mugen is my favourite mofo. I recommend it to everyone who likes samurais, anime, hiphop, capoeira, cool heroes and really smashing jokes! All even better than in Cowboy Bebop, the forecoming succes of the creators. Check it out!

Killing time

My head hurts. Like hell.
I should be learning for my final exams, but its no use now, so I am just killing time. I just colored this little Frankenstein JR picture, hope someone will like it, I do.

Yesterday I went to sleep lately, at 02:30, I was watching GHOST DOG. Cool film - because of Jarmusch, because of Whitaker, because of The code of the samurai. So it was killing time too, but also started my thoughts, which is good, but I should be learning, so its bad.

A girl from my past suddenly reappeared yesterday too, which surprised me, in a positive way. This wouldnt be interesting for anyone except me, but she is skilled with words and letters, so maybe you oughta check her stuff out: ianatica
